Kieran’s Volunteer Journey
I must say, volunteering has been a real eye-opener for me. My first thought was ‘why give up my free time?’ but now it makes a lot more sense to me. I’ve noticed that my confidence has received a huge boost. Being put into situations where I’ve had to talk to all sorts of new people and having the opportunity to take on responsibilities I never thought I would be able to handle has really made me step up.
Through my time volunteering, I have picked up so much, especially from older volunteers who have more experience. I’ve learned everything from teamwork to problem-solving and even soft skill like empathy and patience. It’s really helped me grow as not only a future employee, but a person as well.
Also, having volunteering on my CV will show to future employers that my knowledge isn’t limited to information on a textbook and an exam grade, instead I will also have knowledge of a real working environment. It’s going to give me a serious advantage over others as I figure out what to do after A-Levels.
All in all, choosing to volunteer has easily been one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.
