Brentwood CVS in partnership with Active Essex is pleased to announce a new series of high-quality training sessions designed to support and strengthen local charities and community groups. All sessions will be delivered by David Page, founder of Triceratops Training. David brings over 20 years of experience in fundraising, impact, governance and charity operations. 

  • Building Strong Boards
Wednesday, 4 February 2026, 9:30 to 12:30 at Merrymeade House

Good governance is more than meeting regulatory requirements. This two-part session explores the essential ingredients of an effective board and provides simple steps to strengthen your team.

By the end of the course, participants will:
• Understand the core responsibilities of Trustees
• Recognise the value and potential of an engaged board
• Learn ways to keep boards fresh and motivated

  • Monitoring & Evaluation: Basics of Impact
Wednesday, 11 February 2026, 9:30 to 12:30 at Merrymeade House

Charities exist to make change and demonstrating that change is central to effective monitoring and evaluation. This introductory session covers the fundamentals and gives you the tools to embed impact practice from the start.

Participants will:
• Understand why impact practice matters
• Gain insight into the advantages of robust impact systems
• Build confidence with commonly used terminology
• Learn the key elements of strong impact practice

  • AI: Where to Begin in 2026
Wednesday, 18 February 2026, 9:30 to 12:30 at Merrymeade House

With AI continuing to evolve, this session looks at practical ways it can support small charities, as well as pitfalls to avoid.

You will:
• Explore realistic and helpful uses of AI
• Gain confidence in where to apply AI and where not to
• Learn how to stay informed as AI developments accelerate
